Two workers injured in PA fireworks accident

Two employees for a pyrotechnics company were injured in a fireworks accident at a minor league baseball game outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania this past Friday afternoon.  The accident occurred at the PNC Field in Moosic, Pennsylvania during the fireworks display after the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees game.

Investigators are looking into what caused the accident that left two workers injured.  The workers are employed by a pyrotechnics company that is used at the stadium to put on their fireworks displays.  Officials did not release the workers’ names or conditions, but a family member of one of the workers told reporters that they were in stable condition.

NY woman's arm amputated in industrial accident

Beatriz Blas of Wyandanch, New York was injured last Friday afternoon when her arm became stuck in the packing machine she was using at her job at Brand Packing Group Inc..  The company’s plant is located on Price Parkway.

Blas, 37, screamed when her arm became stuck in the machine.  A coworker quickly rushed to her aid, freed her from the machine, and grabbed her amputated arm.  Emergency care officials airlifted Blas to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.  Blas was later transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center where doctors are trying to reattach her arm.  Hospital authorities say she is in stable condition.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating what caused the terrible workplace accident.  Witnesses and company officials were unsure of how Blas’ arm got caught in the machine.
